…has lived in DC for almost 20 years. Like many Realtors, she had a Life (and career) Before Real Estate. She first came to the Nation’s capital as a foreign correspondent and former feature editor for Der Tagesspiegel, a newspaper based in Berlin, Germany.
She has been intrigued with this complex city and in fact, first became interested in real estate out of curiosity for history and social issues. Today, it’s the “people part” of the business that is central– helping her clients find or sell houses in the best, smoothest and most exciting ways possible. Many of them have become friends for life.
Catarina´s mission combines strong professional ethics and a fierce protection of her clients´ interests with a dedicated and personalized approach. Her media background has proven to be an excellent preparation for all aspects of marketing: state-of-the-art Virtual Tours, beautifully designed brochures and the latest Web 2.0 tools will bring your property in front of millions of potential purchasers.
Sellers and buyers alike will profit from the fact that Cati is intimately familiar with all parts of town and with all aspects of life in Washington, DC and the Maryland suburbs. Although her focus is predominantly on Northwest DC and its neighboring Maryland neighborhoods such as Chevy Chase or Bethesda, she has sold houses, condos and coops in all four quadrants of the city as well as in close-in Montgomery county and Fairfax county, Virginia.
After several years with a large national real estate firm, Catarina joined Evers & Company in 2006, and found a new professional home with an unbelievably supportive team of colleagues and wonderful staff. In 2011, she teamed up with colleague Marcie Sandalow to form the DC House Smarts.
In recent years, Catarina has been contributing to several blogs, including on ActiveRain, and The Washington Post’s Where We Live blog.
Cati and her family reside in Chevy Chase, MD, just a block from the District Line, from Rock Creek Park and DC’s Colonial Village. They had lived in an old Northwest DC row house for the previous 11 years.
Cati has been involved in a range of community activities, from the DC Hotline to school fundraising projects, and frequently donates a portion of her commission to a charity of her clients’ choice.

has been selling houses since 1999, though her immersion in the world of real estate goes back a lot longer. Her mother was an agent, and in fact, co-owned Chambers-Cross, a real estate office in the Chicago suburbs (Winnetka). After spending her post-college years on the west coast and in couple of earlier careers, Marcie (who rarely talks about the fact that she has a degree in Asian History) eventually found her way back to her real destination: real estate.
As the mother of two teenage boys, governess to Willie the Dog and the wife of a journalist, Marcie is outnumbered by strong-minded males in her personal life–her colleagues are convinced that these circumstances have further shaped her calm, down-to-earth and no-nonsense, yet often motherly approach to business.
Marcie’s area of expertise is concentrated in Bethesda/Chevy Chase, where she lives, though she is well versed in the overall DC market. She is actively involved in the community and schools, having served as membership coordinator for the East Bethesda Citizens Association, and a two-year term as PTA Co-president at Chevy Chase Elementary School. She recently served as co-vice president for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School PTSA. Marcie’s got great contacts and a wealth of information about the region.
Marcie has chronicled life and real estate happenings in her own neighborhood for several years in her popular B-CC-DC blog which–like this site–is going to transition and continue as part of the Dc House Smarts website.
